Ninjas in Pyjamas have passed their first real test at ESEA Invite Season 14 Global Finals, defeating Curse 2-0 in the upper bracket final (16-14 on de_dust2_se and 16-3 on de_inferno_se) and getting themselves only one step away from the $20,000 first place prize.

In the penultimate match of the day at ESEA Invite Season 14 Global Finals, NiP and Curse met in the upper bracket final. The first map was Curse's choice de_dust2_se, with the North American team starting on the favored T side.

They managed to win the statistically easiest pistol round in the game, resulting in a 3-0 lead after the necessary ecos by NiP. The reply from the Swedes was stern, with 6 round wins in a row, closest of which was Curse's eco that saw Todd "anger" Williams with a chance to clinch a 1-on-3 before Robin "Fifflaren" Johansson saved his team as their last man standing.

Curse finally managed to outplay NiP at the A bombsite with a group attack, after which Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham picked up a SCAR-20 which later helped his team win another round for 6-5.

Despite losing a round then, the Americans had taken control of the map by winning the next one and resetting NiP's money and they rode that advantage until the end of the half for an 8-7 lead.

Unsurprisingly, they lost the pistol and the following eco, but a famas buy in round three of the second half paid off thanks to Latham's 3 kills at long A, so Curse once again evened the score at 9-9.

They opted for an aggressive defensive setup after that, which turned out being another right move putting Curse ahead 10-9. The lead extended up to 12-9 soon after, but a key eco round win by NiP broke the Americans' momentum, when Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund made a Deagle entry kill through a smoke and Richard "Xizt" Landström scored 3 kills with a P250, including a 1-on-1 to make the score 12-10 and bring NiP back into the game.

It seemed to be the turning point of the map, as the Swedes went on to win another 4 rounds, but Curse brought it back to 14-14 thanks to some more great play by Williams.

However, Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg's fast entry in the next round put the Americans on the back foot again, as they couldn't defend in a 4-on-5 situation, and it was Johansson who later clinched the map with a 1-on-2 in the 30th round.

f0rest was one of the difference-makers as usual

The second map was de_inferno_se, and it didn't turn out to be as interesting as the first. NiP elected to start on the CT side and quickly ran away with a 6-0 lead, setting up a nice two-side boost in the middle in the process which caught Curse off guard during the first buy round.

It wasn't until round 7 that the Americans got on the scoreboard, and it was largely due to Williams' individual effort at the B bombsite where he picked up 4 kills.

Despite Curse putting together two rounds, NiP wasn't affected much, and Alesund together with Friberg regained control of the smaller site shortly after. The rest of the match went by quickly as Curse only managed to put up one more T round, and losing the pistol practically spelled the end for them.

Going for the win with an early buy in round three didn't pay off, so NiP closed the match off with a 16-3 score.
